Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso is the Founder of the New Kadampa Tradition.  He is a fully accomplished meditation master and an interntionally revered teacher of Buddhism.  Born in Tibet, he ordained as a Buddhist monk at 8 years old, and subsequently engaged in 38 years of study and meditation retreat. 

 

Geshe-la, as he is affectionately called by his students, moved to the West in 1977 and has dedicated his whole life to bringing Buddhism to modern practitioners.  He has established over 1,000 Kadampa Buddhist Centers and branches around the world and written over 20 highly acclaimed books.

Dharmapala in Sanskrit means "Dharma Protector". 

Our Center's name was given to us by our Founder, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.  Dorje Shugdan, is the Dharma Protector of our lineage.

 

He is a manifestation of the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri and his main function is to eliminate all obstacles and to gather all beneficial conditions for pure Dharma practitioners.  ​​​​​​​​​​​
