In these busy times it is common to experience fear and anxiety and as a result we often turn to things that don't address the real problem. We may take refuge in denial, distractions, or medication, or we may try to control the circumstances of our life. Since we can never have complete control of what happens to us, these responses don't address the real problem: our unpeaceful, disturbed states of mind.
Buddha taught methods for developing and maintaining a peaceful mind even in the face of great difficulties. These methods are simple and straightforward and appeal to both Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike. They give us the capacity to respond to our circumstances in a realistic and constructive way. Through practicing them, we will come to know a deep inner peace that cannot be disturbed by changing conditions.
